Dr. Linda KaminskiLinda Kaminski joined Azusa Unified School District as superintendent in July 2012.

Her work as a district-level administrator began at Glendale Unified School District as the Coordinator for Research and Evaluation. Since then she has also served as Chief Academic Officer/Assistant Superintendent for the Santa Ana, Santa Monica/Malibu, and Upland school districts.

In 2017, she was named by the Los Angeles County Office of Education as the county’s first “Superintendent of the Year.”

Dr. Kaminski earned her Bachelor Degree at Santa Clara University, Master of Science at Pepperdine University, and Master of Education and Doctor of Education at Harvard University.

The Bigger Picture

AHS students
One of the most positive aspects of Azusa Unified School District is the active involvement of parents in their children’s education and in the life of their school communities.  Recent events have increased my appreciation of our parents’ participation.

Last month, our principals and administrators worked together to create a plan of action in case our students decided to take part in the National School Walkout to call attention to the need for action regarding gun violence, especially at schools.  Instead of laying down the law and falling back on suspensions for any student who walked out of class, we took a more forward-thinking approach.  We modified our bell schedules slightly and prepared safe gathering places on each middle and high school campus so students could congregate and make their voices heard instead of taking their marches to the street.

It worked well for all involved, and I believe it was an important learning opportunity for both students and adults.  But it was especially nice to enjoy the support of most parents, many of whom have told me since that they appreciated our positive approach to the situation.

From parent meetings to school plays and district events, AUSD parents turn out in droves; and now that spring is upon us, there will be even more events to attend.  Parent participation is an aspect of AUSD in which we can all take pride – and I do, every chance I get.  When I meet with other superintendents and the talk turns to each of our districts’ strengths, the first thing I mention about AUSD is our active and supportive parents.

Thank you to all our AUSD parents for the many ways you help your children and their schools!
